Julian Wilson Lost Tapes

Are what many have been asking and in boxing our social networks about since the original edit was taken down out of respect for a project Julian was working on for ESPN. This section of Julian was filmed in a solid swell back in February as Sunnycoast Klips where perched on the beach for 2 days filming clients endeavouring to make the most of a classic 1st Point swell.

As I stated in my 'Julian Wilson - Summer Daze' blog entry back in February: "Julian was assaulting everything and anything resembling ocean that stood in his way, and the waves where about as good on the points as I'd witnessed in a good couple of years"... After continual lip beatings, large drifting tail whips and flying grab rail punts, Julian would occasionally head in for a quick bite to eat with the family who where all set up under beach umbrella only before doing it all over again within the hour.

After receiving a message from Julians brother today stating: "We've been dealing with a whole range of things in regards to this ESPN competition and Julian is actually now (in the last 24hrs) not submitting a video so Please feel free to re-post video as soon as you like".

So was more then eager to make the below edit live again for the Julian Wilson fans. And bring the klips that many had thought where lost forever back to life to stoke out so more eyeballs. Enjoy!!!

Quiksilver Pro Freesurfing

Quiksilver Pro and Freesurfing go hand in hand. When Gotham city fills up with WCT Surfers, pumping waves almost always seem to follow. This years Quiksilver Pro was no exception and set the stage for some solid swell and great free surfing from the likes of Mick Fanning, Sebastian Ziets, Dane Reynolds, Craig Anderson...  well wright after the sand dredge dumped a load anyways.

Didn't have all the time in the world to film but squeezed in a couple of sessions before and after heats. And to be honest when you're staying in a resort like Calypso Plaza it's kind of hard to pull yourself away from lazy Spa, pool and sauna sessions with the wife and kids. But hey it's a hard life and somebodys gotta do it. Blah De Blah Blah Blah ran out of things to say soooo i'll finish with this: Enjoy the klips don't eat to many fish and chips because it will go to your hips!!!

Aaron Kelly 14 Years Young.

Remember back to the sweet age of 14: Chuppa Chupps galore, Timezone lock downs, Surfing and skating all day with not a care in the world, Junk food non stop, pimply face and Simpsons on repeat, well that was about the extent of my life at 14.

Aaron Kelly is 14 years old and resides in Sunshine Beach' on the Sunshine Coast. Not only is his surfing on the rise but he rips it in the skate park as well. He's got a bag full of tricks and surfs more in a week then most groms do in a year. He's got some minor sponsors at present and is amped to rip the comp scene and free surfing arena hard in the days ahead.

With a few wins already under his belt you'd be mad not to back him. Question is: Who will be the ones to sign him up on a sweet deal. when it comes to surfing and skating he's a super hungry young man. Enjoy the Klip we put together.

Surfing Western Australia

Western Australia or WA (as most Aussies call it) is home to some of the most perfect waves on the planet. With 1/10th of the crowd that most places hold and 3 times the wave size: Sunnycoast Klips thought it was high time to team up with WA filmer Nathan Croton from Daville Vizuals.

Nathan is an up and coming film maker who loves getting amongst the action when the waves are on. He has a driving passion to help the youth of his area develop their surfing potential and also does whatever he can to help them with sponsorship. By those that know him "He's a bloke with a big heart".

We want crew to see sick surfing and funky edits so as the klips roll in from Daville Vizuals end Sunnycoast Klips will edit them up all for your viewing pleasure. Welcome to the team Daville Vizuals and keep up the great work. Keep watching our blog for more WA action from the team. Even better subscribe to us in the left hand column so you can get the action as soon as it drops!!!

THIS IS AUSTRALIA

On the North Coast of Australia you could say it's summer time almost all year round. Beautiful one day perfect the next. Due to a good run of swell of recent the points have been true to form producing fun size waves and some real happy surfers.

The only down point is the crowd factor and when the swells up boy do they come by the droves. From SUP riders to body boarders to short boarders everybody's looking for that wave that will make there session.

Got some great footage this day as there where almost non existent gaps in the sets so there where waves pulsing through for maybe 4 days straight from dawn to dusk. Such great waves are good training grounds especially for those looking at taking there surfing to the next level. Practise makes perfect!!!

Julian Wilson - Summer Daze.

See the video edit here: Julian Wilson Lost Tapes

Sunnycoast Klips was on the job over the past couple of days this time witnessing one of surfing's heavy weights Julian Wilson. Julian was assaulting everything and anything resembling ocean that stood in his way, and the waves where about as good on the points as I'd witnessed in a good couple of years...

After continual lip beatings, large drifting tail whips and flying grab rail punts, Julian would occasionally head in for a quick bite to eat with the family who where all set up under beach umbrella only before doing it all over again within the hour.

I would say that the WCT is in grave danger this year from Julian Wilson. Judging by his focused attack on almost every bit of swell that seemed to appear. Surfing like a man on a mission with an obvious driving passion to win, one can only expect the results to follow.

Thomas Woods - For a day.

Yet another day spent on the hunt for waves in Gotham City's notorious Gold Coast. This time with a mellow 20 year old fella by the name of Thomas Woods.

True to form whenever Sunnycoast Klips is on the job as guided from above the waves were pumping and we scored enough good footage in half a day to stoke out the viewers and capture the eyes and ears of the many who will be checking out the 2013 Breaka Pro at Burleigh Heads.

Between Traceys Acai bowls at the Coolangatta smoothie bar, catching up with my best mate John rimz and nabbing some top quality klips. I would have to say: "Mission Complete".

Breaka Burleigh Pro - Wildcard Entry

Breaka Flavoured Milk is once again giving Surfing Queensland affiliated boardriders club members the chance to score a wildcard into the 2013 Breaka Burleigh Pro. To enter the the contest and get a wildcard into the 2013 Breaka Pro entrants must put a short surfing klip of themselves together with a mugshot and all there particulars such as: Age, DOB, boardriders club etc... Entrants must also state what it would mean to them to get a crack at the big league coming up against some of the worlds best surfers in the 2013 Breaka Burleigh Pro.

Kelly and I have been filming over the past few weeks so we thought we'd pull a few spare klips together and try nail a spot in the 2013 Break Pro line up. There has been a few waves around of late and although Kelly and I seemed to keep missing each other on the days when it was really smoking we managed to nail down a couple of sessions and put a short edit together.

More to come from us though... Stay tuned for the 2013 Innersection competition, as we are planning on putting something real mental together and if all goes to plan and we take it out we'll be 100000 USD better off.

Surfing Lessons Noosa

Here's a short film we did during the week for Tropicsurf coach and overseas guide Tim Mitchell. Tim is one of Noosas finest coaches and a great all round surfer to go with it. It was great to work on this project with Tim and bring some of his thoughts and ideas to life. Many of the klips throughout the section feature Tim's surfing and coaching.

If you need a promotional video or webmercial done for your business or hobbies? Then feel free to contact us today as we would love to piece a fun package together just for you.

Sunshine Coast - Easy Living.

Sunshine Coast has got to be the best place on earth, not to fast not to slow, easy living. There are plenty of destinations that I would love to behold before gracefully departing from planet earth all of which I will see in there due time I'm sure.

Thursday the 25th of October 2012 was yet another grand old day of Sunshine Coast living. the waves where firing from the points to the beachies. The sun was scorching, even the streets where alive to the sounds of music. Kelly Norris (one of the Sunshine Coasts rising surfing talents) and I arranged to get amongst the action bright and early as the swell charts where screaming fun and more fun on the wave front.

Arriving early with his young protege Kelly and I joined the hungry crowd and his little mate Zane to see if we could score some klips and hopefully put together an edit. Later in the day I connected with a few other local ladz and we filmed again although I missed out on having a wave myself that day, it's always good to get fresh footage to keep the creative blood stream flowing. Kelly Norris, Dean Connelly, Ryan Campbell, Jasper Endersby and Luke Jory having a good go in what was on offer. Enjoy the klips and the edit.

Maldives Surfing

When you step off the plane in the Maldives the thing that strikes you the most is the colour of the water. Unlike any place I have visited or have had the privilege of holidaying in the past, the colour of the ocean in the Maldives is teaming with life, colour and exuberance.

After staying at the Four Seasons Kuda Hurra resort for a week and watching the Surfing Champions Trophy which consisted of past world champions: Tom Curren, Damien Hardman, Mark Occhilupo, Martin Potter and Phil Rajzman I would have to agree with the Four Seasons claim concerning the competition: "The World's Most Luxurious Surfing Event".

Between Eating like a king breakfast lunch and dinner, sipping coconuts in my water bungalow, surfing fun size aquarium blue waves with nobody out, snorkelling on the coral reef teaming with life and shaking a leg to the islands DJ at sunset it has left me speechless and with a clear understanding of why the Kuda Hurra resort in the Maldives was rated the number 1 resort in the world in 2011.

I would have loved to have filmed more but quite frankly it was far to hot to be stuck behind the camera and far to much to explore in my limited holiday space. Below is a quick klip I put together of: Tom Curren, Tim Mitchell (Tropic Surf Guide and part owner of Surfboard Traders), William Kimball (Friend and member of Tom's band) Pat Curren (Tom's son) Phil Rajzman and Martin Potter free surfing at Sultans before the contest started. In all honesty it was probably the hottest 2 hours of my life and I'm just glad I didn't die of dehydration. The heat in the tropics can be a killer. Enjoy the klips: Bonaqua!!!

Day at the bay: With LJ.

Today was one of those days. Cold offshore winds burning your nasal, crystal glassy peaks bouncing between the trees and not a cloud in sight. It's always good catching up with old mates and Luke Jory's one of those mates too me. Been hanging since the sweet age of sixteen and still hanging now at the age of 32. Nowadays we both appreciate surfing for what it's really all about: Friendship, fun waves and a sun scorched day hanging at the beach with mates and family.

Here's what the surf was doing on the sunshine coast on Thursday 2/8/2012. Judging from the conditions this day something tells me that there would have been fun waves all over the Coast.

Hawaii

Below is a brief history on this thing we call surfing as it's origins stem from the heart of Hawaii. The footage isn't exactly brand new, but if your anything like me you never get sick of watching the worlds best getting blown out of heaving barrels. Hawaiis Backdoor and Pipeline are still one of God's greatest forces to be reckoned with too date.

History
The earliest written account of surfing, or “hee nalu” in Hawaiian, was by Lieutenant James King in 1779 just months after Captain Cook’s death. He described Native Hawaiians riding a wood plank on the swells of Kealakekua Bay on Hawaii Island. Even he could see how fun the sport was writing, “… they seem to feel a great pleasure in the motion that this exercise gives.”
Surfing is believed to have originated long ago in ancient Polynesia, later thriving in Hawaii. It was once a sport only reserved for alii (Hawaiian royalty), which is why surfing is often called the “sport of kings.” King Kamehameha I himself was known for his surfing ability. With the end of the Hawaiian kapu (taboo) system in 1819, commoners were allowed to freely participate in the sport. With the arrival of western missionaries in the 1800’s, Hawaiian customs like hula and surfing were discouraged.
But in the late 1800’s the “Merrie Monarch” King Kalakaua, one of the last reigning monarchs of the Hawaiian Kingdom, revived the hula signaling the return of Hawaiian cultural pride. In the early 1900’s, surfing was revitalized on Waikiki Beach. Duke Kahanamoku, who grew up surfing these south shore waves, was a Waikiki Beach Boy, spreading aloha by teaching visitors how to surf and canoe. Duke later became a multiple gold-medal winner at the Olympics as a swimmer. Later in life he was known as the “father of modern surfing,” spreading the popularity of the sport to the mainland U.S. and Australia. Today, a bronze statue of Duke welcomes visitors to Waikiki where first-time surfers are still learning to catch their first waves today.
Did big wave surfing begin in Hawaii?
Hawaii is also the birthplace of big wave surfing. In the 1950’s surfers began to ride the powerful winter waves of Makaha on Oahu’s west shore and Waimea Bay on the North Shore. Big wave season in Hawaii happens roughly between November and February on Hawaii’s north shores.

Enjoy the klip we put together below as the footage is insane!!!

Matt Banting

Matt Banting in case you didn't already know derives from Kempseys number one tourist destination Port Macquarie. Matt Banting and I met some few years ago now whilst I was offered a job filming and running the local surf shop in Port Macquaries main street. Ports an interesting little town full of odd sorts and not a day went by where I didn't witness some form of bizarre occurrence.

After a solid discussion with Matt in his driveway about the film I was working on 'Lifesupport' and sharing with Matt about some of his junior rivalry's that I'd been working on sections with, such as Jack Freestone, Clay Marzo etc.. Matt quickly raced in side and seemed more then eager to hand me over his hard drive full of klips, which he was frothing at the mouth to let me use.

Judging from what Matt was telling me I was about to stumble upon some dead set gold in that little black box. But the little black box was net yet ready to be opened. After many attempts at opening Matt Bantings Western Digital on my computer it just wasn't going to happen.

But now i know why... A mysterious fellow stumbled across the hard drive on my desk the other day and claimed to have the know how to unlock the files and deliver them safely to my computer. To put it in laymen's terms: Matts hard drive was not synchronised to my computer so the files could not be opened until Keahi De Aboitiz transferred all data onto his computer, then dropped it all onto mine.

Overview of Telo's: The Telo's are made up of two main Islands that are surrounded by about 99 smaller islands, situated between Nias and The Mentawai's, the area is very remote, untouched and sparsely populated, geographically the islands are closer to the mentawai's, however the people, culture, local language originated from Nias. An extremely beautiful area, think tropical paradise.

So here we go I finally got there: Matt Banting in the Telos Islands, enjoy the edit and the golden klips from the little black box.

Noosa-Vintage 12-7-2012

Noosa Vintage Teed up on Wednesday night filmed Thursday morning 10:30am.
Duggo contacted me Wednesday night and tells me: "It was so fun today Ramps everywhere". So I had some free time on my hands and Jakey V was keen so we packed the car and where on our way.

Due to a gnarly car crash we left Vinno hanging for half an hour or more and minutes into filming my camera decided to get dust all over the lens (welcome to the world of digital SLRS). Missed the best wave of the session trying to clean the thing and later found out it's going to cost me $100 to get a sensor clean Doooowwww. If anybody knows a cheaper way to get it back to crystal please let me know. Enjoy Noosa Vintage... More spots and dust then you can poke a stick at.

Sunnycoast Slabs.

Over the past 2 days (28-29/6/2012) the Sunshine Coast has produced sand dredging, Kirra like, freight train barrels. And also some epic surfing from the likes of Keahi De Aboitiz (World #1 Kite Surfer), Dean Brady, Ryan Campbell and Luke Jory.

In the words of Keahi: "It wasn't as perfect as the last swell that everybody raved about, but it was definitely chunkier and more challenging in the tube". To put my few words in if i may: "Keahi went freakn mental on that SUP and is lucky he doesn't have the awe permanently wedged up his bunghole. Ha".

There's been videos and photos all over the web of the epic waves on offer during the last good swell on the Gold CoastBut although the Sunshine Coast is just a little ways up north, the surf-web output from the northern cousins has been much quieter this week ... until now. It only takes three or four minutes of killer video footage of perfect left and right draining barrels somewhere on the Sunny Coast to remind us all that there's much more to surfing in Queensland than just on the coast south of Brisbane...

Sand banks come and go but the last couple of swells have not been wasted as world class slabs have been had by many local chargers. Although many would have loved to have surfed the Kirra like slabs as seen below, sand banks don't hang around forever. As the proverb goes: "To the victors went the spoils ~ William Learned Marcy".

Lion Park

Lion Park is the home of brothers Jack Duggan and Mark Duggan. Jack likes surfing and fishing, where as Mark likes fishing and surfing. Father and son team living the dream beach side. Life's epic and Lions Parks got major little ramps, witness this first hand by watching the below video.

This is also the first edit I have put together over the past few days of filming on my new Canon 7D. The cameras everything I could have asked and more so. Big thanks too my good friend for believing in me enough to buy my new camera set-up for me out of the kindness of His heart.

This edits for you bra!

Kings Beach

The 4551 makes no mistakes. Kings Beach has a little something for everyone. With an auditorium shaped beach, array of multi cultural tourists and illustrious sea side pool, on a sunny day Kings Beach could almost be mistaken as Venace beach California, or in other words Caloundrafornia. Here's our take on the place featuring born and bread Kings Beach surfer Nick Doran.

Julian Wilson

Was filming some clients today and discovered a man in an orange wetsuit busting out a little larger than your average surfer. After a more thorough inspection I discovered it was Julian Wilson back from his WCT pilgrimage.

I had to follow my clients around to the next spot as they were on the move, but here's what I managed to capture of Julian Wilson in very poor waves in the space of say 20 minutes. Must have necked a few Red Bulls before the surf I reckon???

CJ Hobgood-Damien Hobgood

Hobgood brothers are laid back cats from the deep heart of Texas or maybe Califonia or Florida or some place like that. Every time i see them there in holiday mode in my folks holiday appartments at Kirra so there always real chill when ever we chat or I join them for a swim in the apartment block pool.

They surf amazing and there accents run so deep that i feel like i'm about to be lasooed by a missisipi cowboy whenever i chat with them. Damos got a cute as little family and whats more to be said... From an on looker like me they seem as if the're living the dream!!!

Surfing Lessons

Surfing lessons are worth while, and I would say at every level, and the best form of criticism is the constructive kind. So this is where I am about to make a few points worthy of consideration.

Being a die hard surfer and not just filmmaker myself, and flashing back on prior surfing years as one who entered many competitions, coaching clinics and so on. I can comment that watching your self surf on film, helps you to see what you are doing right,...and wrong, more so then any thing else. We tend to emulate our hero's like Kelly and Mick. You can bet your life if they did a double air reverse, and landed it, every one would be out there trying that. It's the old as "do as I do" theory. Every one does it, we thrive on it, as we should. Just think, that if you had yourself on that bit of film, it would do your surfing progress no harm at all. It's real fun, and you get pointers so you can improve on your abilities while your at it. To put it simply seeing yourself surf on film, will help you progress more then all other coaching methods combined. And you are able to watch over and over again untill you have ironed out the creases.

Sunnycoast Klips caters to surfers at all levels and not just proffesionals. Whatever stage you may be at: beginner, intermediate, holiday maker, backpacker, we can stucture a surfing film package just for you to meet your needs. Some need a High performance surfing resume, others simply want to see how it's all coming along, and some would just love the movie memorabilia to be able to take back home. Just to have the evidence of their first surfing experiences of their special day captured on film, with friends at the beach is so cool!.We also cater to surfing schools looking at advancing their clients through this avenue.

See prior client videos below:

Contact us today for a care free quote as we would love to piece a fun package together just for you.
